Upgrade from 2.6.1

We are an old user of 2.6.1 and never bothered to upgrade to 3.x. The changes didn't seem worth the time and trouble. I see that 4.0 is released. Will 4.0 import all our old 2.6.1 tickets and correspondance (about 15K tickets, 45K emails).

Can 2.6.1 and 4.0 run side-by-side other than email importing?

4.0 uses it's own database (it's not an upgrade of any previous db) so, yeah, you can run it concurrently with any previous Cerberus install (just turn off the mail parsing on the old one).

As for importing, 4.0 imports email, not tickets, so you would just need an exporter to dump your 2.x db out to individual email files (with appropriate extra headers added). The C3 exporter is done, but I believe the C2 one is not yet.

I doubt we'll ever have a C2->C4 exporter.

It makes more sense to just make a copy of a C2 database and patch it up through C3. Then export.
