Hi Jeff an all @webgroupmedia,

we´re pretty impressed by your progress and hoping to jump on the 4.0 wagon asap.

When will it be finished?

Best Regards,

Marc

Cerb 4.0 is "done" (out of beta and fully usable), though that doesn't mean new plugins won't be created, nor does it mean it won't change. Cerb 4.0 is no longer in beta, though, and can certainly be used fully! :)

I wouldn't say Cerb 4.0 is done, but it's out of beta. With any luck it'll never be done because there will always be fresh feedback.

@Marc

Hey there! It's really finished depending on whether the functionality you need is developed.

Rather than going for big-bang style releases like Cerb2+3, we're doing incremental daily updates for 4.0 that implement ongoing feedback. We'll be tagging our progress along the way, running the functionality tests and announcing stable milestones. We're not going to be hording changes just so we can make a more marketable announcement a couple months from now.

Is there anything specific you're waiting on? :)

Hi again,

thanks for clearing the situation - there´s so much going on regarding Cerberus, I guess I missed it. I will try to have a look on the new/actual version these days and get back if there´s somethin I´m missing!

Best regards,

marc

Jeff, our main concern prior to upgrade is that you have a fully tested release where we can expect (relatively) painless upgrade from 3.x and reliable operation - our helpdesk is too important to "try it and hope for the best".

We've had plenty of problems in the past, especially going from 2.x -> 3.x and upgrades within the 3.x version. So the main thing we're waiting for is you to let us know that the version of 4.x exists that meets the above criteria.

It seems like every time I see anything regarding 4.x it's a development post (indicating that you're still working the bugs out and/or making significant design choices - e.g. mysql 4.1+), or it claims "released" such as when 4.x was first publically announced, in which case it's release wasn't actually the appropriate term for me.

So, I watched with anticipation when RC1 was announced, but what about RC2 or "final"? Whilst it's great to hear that development is always ongoing and aims to be so responsive, I'm concerned about having to upgrade frequently to work out some bugs or to get a critical feature/behaviour back in our lives.

JIRA seems to indicate there are still plenty of bugs to fix in 4.0 - so I guess "final" is a long way off?

Hey doodlepop!

There's a lot bouncing around in my head about this. I got up to about 4 paragraphs before I realized this would probably be better off on the blog. ;)
