Thank you for returning to the vBulletin forums. They are so much easier to use and navigate than the now old Vanilla forums.

Sure thing!

We figured while we were improving everything else it was a good time to honor this long-time suggestion as well. ;)

Woot! Thanks for the switch.

But I have to ask - Hildy made such a big deal about Vanilla being necessary due to future Cerberus integrations that weren't possible with vBulletin... what happened to that?

Vanilla was my call originally based on the idea we'd need to dig deep into the database to pull out useful content and pair it with tickets. The "awesomeness" of what Fetch & Retrieve evolved into made redoing our forums unnecessary. It also made our choice of forum software a moot point.

A lot more information about why that's the case is described in the official "4.0 Support Center" thread (because it's going to use F&R extensively):
http://www.cerb4.com/forums/showthread.php?p=121

That link probably has all the info you can handle. I hope you have some coffee nearby. ;)

Thanks so much for reverting to vB - even though I don't love vB, I really couldn't stand the vanilla forums - they were dreadful!

I want to extend my gratitude to you as well. The Vanilla forums were a nightmare to hunt through, just counterintuitive as all hell. I will be participating much more often with these forums.

Being pragmatic, does this mean that 4.0 F&R will work with other forums besides Vanilla... Does this include FireBoard? If not what is it compatible with?

F&R will work with anything that lets you pass it a search via the URL! :)

Hey there!

As neenach2002 said, F&R works with pretty much anything.

If you have access to a database for any application you can create a search adapter than returns results as RSS. This is even easier if you have access to an application's code and can use its own API to do the search (but it's not required).

Many apps are starting to provide this functionality inherently, and we're starting to pool together some adapter recipes on the wiki:
