View Full Version : [Improvement] Replying to a thread

Hi,
1. When you reply to a thread, you need to scroll down to the bottom of the first email, why not do it like in gmail/hotmail/offline clients? Put the buttons on top (AND on the bottom) of the mail?
Then you can jump to where the reply will be typed and all is ok.
This is because sometimes I have discussed something over the phone already with a person, after which he send me a lengthy discussion on how to implement it, and I rather prefer clicking on reply at the top and not scrolling down to the reply/fwd buttons every time.
2. When you reply to a thread, would it be possible to add 2 enters before the text so you have your cursor and an empty line before your reply? This is -I think- very convenient.

1. +1
2. I do this with checking insert signature before reply and adding two empty lines on top of it.

1's pretty easy, though specific instructions are going to depend on exactly how you want to implement it. Edit cerb4/plugins/cerberusweb.core/templates/display/modules/conversation/message.tpl.php.
Lines 58-67 are the buttons, and you just need to copy those up to the beginning of the file somewhere (where exactly will depend on personal preference).

Hey Dan,
For me you don't need to go into the efforts of explaining it because I mostly removed those inconveniences already myself, for others it's of course a nice reference.
I'm just reporting them here because I want to make this product even more convenient to use.

Can't guarantee there will be any changes to Cerb4, but I added them as separate requests in JIRA for the developers to evaluate.
#1. http://www.wgmdev.com/jira/browse/CHD-414
#2. http://www.wgmdev.com/jira/browse/CHD-415

1. Yeah that's possible.
2. Sure, it would be pretty easy to tweak this in the template only when the 'insert signature' is 'Above text'. However, the proper "netiquette" is to reply below quoted text that's cropped to provide just enough context for your comments. At any rate, an extra line or two to make it easier to start typing is certainly a fine request. ;)

And deep down we love you for it. ;)

As a compromise, I added an "actions" shortcut next to "address book" at the top of the message. Copying the reply buttons was way too cluttered.

For #2, what browser and Cerb4 build are you using? We seem to be adding an extra line already.
