View Full Version : Multiple outgoing auth SMTP

We have a whole bunch of resellers that we manage support for, they all have their own mail servers and *all* of them require smtp auth (as they should!)
This means it's pretty much impossible to send them anything from our server unless it's uses auth smtp, since the from address is support@theirdomain.tld .
Any timeline on this?
(Don't get me started on trying to get cerb4 talking to a Exchange 2007 server either :) )

Well, SMTP auth is in and working (and we're in process of cleaning up the error handling on it to make it better), but the outgoing mail settings are only set in a single place, so it's not currently possible to have different outgoing mail servers for different from addresses. I could see this potentially fitting into the group mail config area (as an override, like signatures and from addresses), but I don't know that it's a high-enough demand item to go into the core plugin.

Yes it would fit wonderfully under the group config, I was half expecting it to be there already after install :)

Uhm... ok now you scare me a bit.
A multigroup, multidomain, mutieverything falling short of auth smtp for MULTIple servers?!?

Hey Danny,
Most people can relay mail to anywhere from their own server, so this hasn't been a major issue yet.
It's also pretty obvious why we haven't focused on making it too easy for 15 *different* companies to share a single helpdesk license, right? ;)
For the above points, Dan@WGM is absolutely right that the demand hasn't been there yet.
That's not to say we can't overload SMTP settings at the Group level as well. It makes perfect sense for the situation you're describing (outsourced support). I'm glad to see it pop up in JIRA's wishlist.

Hi J!

Yupp normal case where there is one group and one mail server, the existing setup works beautifully :)

Reeeally?! :)
Hey we're bringing Cerb4 to people that wouldn't dream of getting it themselves.

Yes I'm keeping my fingers crossed here! It would make my day!

Agreed! That's the whole gist of our past XSP (unlimited instances on shared hosts) stuff too.
It's a very... charitable cause. I can get behind that. ;)

I don't see any obstacle to providing the feature. It's a little extra complexity in the mail system, but it's a worthwhile trade-off to enable outsourced support companies to fully use Cerb4.

I would also appreciate this new feature a lot.
Moreover I am probably not the only one, who would like to use CH with Google Apps or Gmail. And it is great feature to have all outgouing mail archived there. It would be great if it will possible to setup SMTP auth for each group. Hopefully, this will be available soon.
Thanks in advance :-)
