Reporting Issue - Registered Contacts Associated to Multiple Companies

Jeff and team,

This question refers back to CERB-638. For my small Web hosting company, I'm using 3.x to manage update requests and time spent managing specific Web sites.

I have contacts that are associated with as many as three different Web sites - different companies - that I manage.

Example - When Ed makes a request to change something on a Web page, he may be referring to one of three different Web sites/companies. For billing, I would need to assign that time to one of the three companies.

We'd like to be able to have registered contacts associated to multiple companies. I have a work-around that requires that I add a custom field to identify the company, but it's not tied very well into reporting. (I'm having zero luck trying to figure out iReport)

I migrated the original feature request to the 4.0 Roadmap:

Technically, it's simple to associate addresses with multiple organizations in the database and code.

What we really need to consider is the impact/complexity in the GUI. Needing the same e-mail address to be associated with multiple organizations is a bit of a fringe case to complicate the entire product -- and there's possibly a better way we can solve your main requirement (org-level time tracking, billing, etc)

Perhaps most functionality could still use a primary organization per address, but there could be alternate organization associations for lesser functionality like time tracking.

I've linked this thread to the feature request so we can continue to talk about it.
