Can I suggest that you add a comment along the lines of "before you import the messages make sure you don't have any email notifications enabled in the Cerb4 helpdesk".
I'd been playing with Cerb4 before importing everything - and so had the notification emails for new messages turned on. When the import process started I ended up with lots and lots and lots of emails letting me know that new tickets had arrived!!
